Riposto
An ancient trading port on the eastern coast of Sicily, Riposto offers a stunning view over the Ionian Sea. A slice of life from times gone by, linked to the sea, its traditions, its various crafts and the flavours still jealously preserved today. The town’s identity revolves around its large port, as shown by its alternative names of “Marina di Riposto” or “Porto dell’Etna”. Its seafaring history is also reflected in the Neoclassic Basilica dedicated to the Patron Saint of Seamen, Saint Peter. Another, more ancient church is Madonna della Lettera, refurbished four times starting from Arab-Norman times. The port, its sea promenade, the City Hall dating from the 1920s, are just some of the few enchanting attractions of this small town which also hosts each year important art, music and film festivals.
